Paracentrotus lividus population biology and ecology
Universidad de La Laguna (Spain)
My PhD thesis is about the ecology of Paracentrotus lividus populations off the Canary Islands. In a climate warming context, we are highly interested in understanding how environmental factors are influencing the reproductive cycle of the specie, from gonad maturity and egg production to larval settlement. This temperate echinoid living at the southern limit of its geographical distribution is a good model to test predicted ocean changes due to global change. I am greatly interested in evaluating the distribution of P. lividus in response to environmental variables at different scales, from habitat requirements to oceanographic conditions along the Archipielago.
