In the AMBILAB, we combine soil and sediment micromorphology with organic geochemistry to investigate archaeological sites. Micromorphology offers a microscopic perspective of archaeological contexts, allowing us to identify subtle features and remains that often go unnoticed during excavation. In parallel, we study organic residues preserved in sediments through lipid biomarker analysis. These source-specific molecular compounds can remain stable over long periods of time in archaeological deposits and offer valuable insights into past human activities and environmental conditions.
